Air New Zealand brought in their All Blacks 777 again today .

Atlas Air 744F N493MC landed last night with 2 Bell 412 helicopters on board.THE 744F left for Sydney at 0400 this morning.

Yesterday VH-YIF Virgin newest 737H arrived on delivery from NAN as PBN 9080 around 1600 hrs.
New Hawker VH-BMW was in yesterday as it's first visit .
Today at OOL Jetstar newest 320 VH-VFD made it's first appearance in SE QLD skies.

American G450 N192NC arrived BNE and has since departed this afternoon.

We are expecting a new biz tomorrow VH-JPQ a Challenger 600 .It should be BNE based.

THE Coast will become a $3 million base for new commuter charter airline JetGo Australia as it prepares to begin fly-in, fly-out routes by late March.

After a year of negotiation, the company has announced it will build a maintenance hangar at Sunshine Coast Airport.

It follows revelations earlier this month that Skytrans would fly workers from Marcoola to Queensland mines owned by Rio Tinto.

However, emerging airline JetGo has been chartered on behalf of at least one Sunshine Coast mining services firm.

"Essentially we are operating a fly-in, fly-out service from Sydney, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, " a spokesman said but he declined to name clients on the grounds of commercial confidentiality.

He said the Coast was a top choice because the cost of ground lease for hangar construction in Brisbane was more than $250,000 a year. Access would also be easier with fewer aircrafts demanding access to the tarmac.

JetGo will be the first Coast commuter airline to use jets in the under 50 seat market, matching the commuting time of those who drove to Brisbane to work.

"Typically, our competitor's aircraft are turbo prop - from Brisbane to Emerald takes about one hour 40 minutes in a typical Dash-8. Our flights are approximately 50 minutes," the spokesman said.

The 37-seat Embraer 135LR jets could begin flying twice a week by late March, following final regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. "A lot of the companies (using JetGo) will pick up workers in Brisbane, go via the Sunshine Coast then fly to Moranbah," he said.

This high-speed travel would create "a new world" for Coast workers, according to economic development councillor Lew Brennan.

"It's an opportunity for us to break into new markets and new business," he said.

He credited airport general manager Peter Pallot with a "tremendous amount of hard work".

"I would also like to congratulate the company that has stepped up and committed to the Coast," Cr Brennan said.

Diversions the past few days

All SE QLD airports have experienced monsoonal rains the past few days with falls of 300-500 mm and there have been plenty of diversions and holding.
OOL and MCY have both had diversions to BNE .Air Asia X yesterday was the main one .9M-XXB diverted twice to BNE yesterday after being unable to land at OOL.It stayed in BNE last night and departed to OOL at 0700 this am as XAX 206D exactly 1 day late.
Weather is suppose to worsen again this weekend.

Queensland flight increases:
Brisbane-Gladstone: One extra return flight on Sundays (using the ATR); taking the total number of flights offered by
the airline on the route to 34 per week.
Brisbane-Rockhampton: An extra return flight, Monday to Friday; taking the total number of Virgin Australia flights
between Brisbane-Rockhampton up to 78 per week.
Brisbane-Cairns: An extra return flight will be added every day except Saturdays; taking the total number of Virgin
Australia flights between Brisbane and Cairns each week to 80.
Brisbane and Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine): An additional return service, Monday to Friday, will be introduced;
taking the total number of flights offered by the airline on the route to 24 per week.
Brisbane-Melbourne: An extra return flight seven days a week; taking the total number of flights offered on the route up
to 13 daily or 174 per week.
Previously announced BNE-MKY and BNE-SYD frequencies are yet to start also and will add to the increases.
At the beginning of October 2011 BNE had 68 departures a day now from late March this will be 80 departures a day.

Short trip report

Yesterday along with a good friend i travelled to Gladstone from BNE.We flew up on Qantaslink Q400 VH-QOC and came back on new ATR72 VH-FVH .Both flights took approx 1 hour in journey time.
QF6300D departed RWY 19 at 0629 and was a full ship with not one spare seat.We climbed to 20,000 ft and the flight was smooth.We were seated at the rear of the engine and noise was not a issue.Light refreshments were served by the flight attendants abd this included yoghurt,museli bar and a raisin bun.Juice or tea and coffee was also complimentary.
We landed at Gladstone on RWY 28 at 0735.

Departure was with Virgin Australia DJ 1716 at 1400 to BNE.We departed the gate at 1353 and takeoff time was early at 1359 off RWY 10.I was seated in 14F a window seat and thank you David for doing that.A little bit of turbulence and some manouvering around the cumulus clouds just after takeoff and then a light refreshment was served.This was a tasty cheese and semidried tomato wrap with relish .Water or juice as well as tea or coffee were also complimentary.
We landed at 1501 on RWY 14 at Brisbane and a 7 minute taxi to the gate saw us arrive 12 minutes early.
The ATR i feel had the nicer cabin look than the Q400 however both aircraft were a privilege to try out for the first time.

Car Park opens today at BNE domestic

BNE opens largest single-structure car park in the southern hemisphere

A $180 million nine storey, 5,000 space car park, the largest single-structure car park in the southern hemisphere, will open tomorrow at Brisbane Airport.

The new car park is part of a $250 million upgrade to the Domestic Terminal precinct. In addition to the car park, the upgrade will see new roads around the Domestic Terminal and an elevated skywalk from the car parks to the terminal. The upgrade of the Domestic Terminal precinct follows the opening of the $220 million Moreton Drive in 2009.

Stage 1, Levels 2-5 of the car park, will open at 7am on Tuesday 17 January 2012 (subject to weather and construction schedules). Remaining levels will open in coming weeks.

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) Head of Corporate Relations, Rachel Crowley, said once complete, the Domestic Terminal precinct would add significant extra capacity on the roads and in the car parks, providing passengers with a more efficient and convenient experience.

“Tomorrow’s opening will be the very first stage of the upgrade and while there are still a few finishing touches to be completed we’re well on our way. We wanted to open this first stage as soon as possible to provide more parking capacity for everyone who uses the Domestic Terminal.

“Constructing a new car park and road network in the middle of an airport terminal which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week has been a complex process. We are grateful to our customers for their patience during this construction period and we’re sure they’ll be happy when they see the finished product later this year.”

Ms Crowley said the new short-term multi-level car park is part of Brisbane Airport’s commitment to provide the best possible facilities for its customers.

“When it’s finished this new car park will provide world-class park-finding technology which indicates available car spaces; extra lighting; undercover walkway access to the terminal; safety and security (CCTV cameras); parking for people with disabilities; 24-hour management; and express entry/exit ramps as well as online booking.”

The new multi-level car park coming on line will provide significant additional capacity for short-term, bringing the total number of parking spaces at the Domestic Terminal to 9,000.

“Thanks to the additional capacity we will have for short-term parking, we can now offer a number of new car parking products and long-term parking deals, which will provide customers with more choice and options tailored to their parking needs. These include online booking, PARKVALET and PARKPREMIUM.

“Furthermore, from 1 February any customers who book online will be able to park at the Domestic Terminal PARKLONG car park for the weekend for only $49. We will also soon be introducing a $99 for one week deal with online booking,” Ms Crowley said.

Skytrans BNE flight schedule last week

Last week there was a total of 42 movements through BNE.21 Departures and 21 Arrivals made up of 34 FIFO and 8 RPT services.

In regards to the FIFO services there were 2 new BNE-MCY-CMT flights each way as well as the 13 non stop BNE-CMT.Also a once a week BNE-EMD and once a week BNE-TSV-BNE possibly for maintenance operated last week.

I believe there may be a fortnightly BNE-Middlemount flight as well but it never operated last week.

Next week i will try to check out the Aergo-Pelair-Rex flights and post some sort of schedule.

ALSO next week i am trying out the Q400 and ATR-72 and will try to post a trip report if possible.

BNE Airport movement totals

For the year Dec 2010 to November 2011 BNE has handled 198,015 movements with a expected total of approx 199,000 for the 2011 calendar year .Average daily stats for November was approx 575 movements a day a new record.
January 2011 started off with a daily average of 508 a day so nearly a 67 movements a day increase from Jan to Nov 2011.Statistics for December are not available as yet.

So looking at November stats Aircraft over 136 tonnes was 1,878 for the month
Between 7 and 136 tonnes were 13,392 movements.
Under 7 tonnes 1,842
44 helicopter and 68 military movements.

Next year at the growth of current new services already announced and some that are expected i would believe we will overtake Melbourne in 2012 with around 210-215,000 movements annually.

They will be commencing charter and FIFO service from Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. The colours are believed to be as shown.

2012 WHAT CAN WE EXPECT AT BNE

BNE will continue to grow around 4-5% in 2012 with pax figures of about 21.25 million and aircraft movements of around 210,000-215,000 or 5-6% growth.
New airlines possibly 3-5 covering FIFO and international services.Already Qantas has advertised DFW-BNE will go daily and Air Australia are planning to add another 10 flights a week to HKT,HNL,DPS and new routes to SGN,SHA are planned.Virgin are planning up to 78 international flights a week with increases to NZ ports as Air New Zealand reduce and also BNE-POM will go to 5 a week.
In relation to Cargo Pacific Air Express will commence a weekly BNE-FIJI flight next month.There is also the possibility of a weekly BNE-SIN freight service operated by a American carrier.

Domestically we can see continued growth to the FIFO towns such as Emerald,Gladstone,Mackay,Roma etc with both Virgin and Qantaslink adding new flights in 2012.
2012 should bring BNE new aircraft in 717,Fokker 50 and perhaps others.

Developments at the airport should bring a new domestic terminal car park ,more apron parking at the domestic ,a new viewing area for us spotters and commencement of early clearing works for the new runway.

Overall a positive year in my opinion.

2012 WHAT CAN WE EXPECT.

2012 i believe brings optimism at our local airports.Today i will look at OOL.

OOL (Gold Coast) What can we expect or predict.

With nearly 6 million pax annually i believe OOL will grow slowly again this year.
Growth on domestic services may come from SYD and MEL once again.Tiger are planning a 2nd base from June 2012 possibly in Sydney.If this happens then you can be assured SYD-OOL flights will once again commence.
FIFO may well finally commence from OOL in 2012 most likely to mines in Central Queensland.Who and what we will just have to wait.
Internationally Air Asia X hopefully will increase back to daily again in 2012 .
Other carriers i am not so sure.Scoot is a possible but with 400 pax in a 777 getting out of OOL'S current runway may not be obtainable.
Trans tasman ops will most likely show some growth with all 3 carriers.

QANTAS will they or won't they come back to OOL.I believe they will come back later in 2012 with services to both SYD,MEL .

Air Australia to add BNE-Ho Chi Minh and SHA

Air Australia announced yesterday 2 new routes out of BNE to Vietnam and China .Both services will be 3 a week subject to all the approvals.First flights will commence in June 2012.
Brisbane has never been linked to Vietnam before and in the case of Shanghai(China) there are no flights currently as China Eastern no longer operate Charters there anymore from BNE.
Apparently HNL is doing great with 92% load factors and BNE-MEL may return a profit from day 1.

Air Australia along with Virgin Australia are both BNE based airlines and this being a SE QLD blog we support them both .

Air Australia expands fleet

Air Australia Airways has confirmed it will add four additional aircraft to its fleet to make way for more domestic and international flights.

The airline has finalised lease agreements with International Lease Finance Corporation ILFC to take delivery of an initial two Airbus A330-200 aircraft. It will also reposition two of its 180 seat Airbus A320 aircraft from its European charter operation to Australia. The first of the aircraft arrives next month.

From 15 December, Air Australia starts its first flights on the highly competitive Melbourne-Brisbane-Melbourne main trunk route with seats selling from A$69 one-way including taxes.

Next month Air Australia also launches new low cost international services from Brisbane and Melbourne non-stop to Honolulu, Hawaii, priced from $499 one-way including taxes.

The airline plans to introduce Australia-China services in mid 2012 and this month lodged an application with the International Air Services Commission (IASC) for an allocation capacity to operate services between Australia and Vietnam.

Air Australia unveiled its new brand name, distinctive green and gold aircraft livery and new uniforms on 3 November.

MD and CEO Michael James said support from the general public and the travel industry has been overwhelming.

"Our team at Air Australia is doing an outstanding job and with the strong support of our travel industry partners we are currently tracking ahead of forecast and expect an operating profit this financial year," he said.

"We are very focussed on bedding down our new business model and the expansion of our fleet which will see our A320 fleet supporting our growing A330 international network," he said.

BAC reports solid results for 2011 despite challenging year

Brisbane Airport Corporation Pty Limited (BAC) today reported a net profit, before tax, un-realised gains and shareholder distributions, of $148 million, up from $142 million last year, reinforcing the company’s stability during a year that has seen world and local turmoil significantly impact travel and tourism numbers.

International passengers of 4.2 million were up 3.6% on FY10 while domestic passengers of 15.8 million were up 6%. The airport also recorded more than 20 million passengers in total through the terminals – a record despite challenging times – continuing the strong and sustained role the airport is playing in generating jobs, investment and opportunity for Queensland.

BAC CEO and Managing Director, Julieanne Alroe, said the solid result for FY11 more than exceeded expectations especially given the industry as a whole had been greatly impacted by a number of local and global disasters.

“We saw positive, substantial and stable growth in passenger numbers across both domestic and international markets in the first six months of FY11, with much of this growth a result of additional capacity and new services introduced by our airline partners.

“While the second half of the year was marred with floods, earthquakes, tsunamis and ash clouds, Brisbane Airport remained open and fully operational demonstrating the reliability and durability of our critical infrastructure.

“I see this as a promising sign that Brisbane Airport, like Queensland, has shown it can withstand incredibly difficult challenges,” Ms Alroe said.

Other significant developments and achievements throughout FY11 include:

The opening of Australia’s first Airport Experience Centre;
AUD$600 million debt raising in the USA and Australian bond markets;

The opening of Brisbane Airport’s upgraded and expanded $43 million Common User Satellite at the Domestic Terminal;
The injection of 1.4 million seats by various airlines, underpinned by a strong demand for seats from the business sector; and
A record of more than 400,000 international passengers in one month and over 16,000 international passengers in one day.

To keep up with growing demand, BAC continues to roll out a multi-million dollar infrastructure program including a $120 million terminal apron expansion project at the International and Domestic Terminals.

“The construction at the International Terminal will consist of approximately 65,000m² of aircraft pavement to provide two extra bays suitable to accommodate A380 aircraft, as well as new taxiways to improve airfield operations.

“An additional 75,000m² of aircraft pavement will also provide eight more bays - suitable for 737 aircraft – at the Domestic Terminal, further boosting our capacity to service future regional growth,” Ms Alroe said.

The opening of the new Common User Satellite this year was the first part of a much larger upgrade to the Domestic Terminal precinct, which is still currently underway.

Construction of the Domestic Terminal’s new nine storey multi-level car park continues and, when complete, will provide more than 5,300 undercover car spaces.

Upgrades to the road network, including a free public pick-up area and an undercover, elevated walkway over the terminal roads, will also provide significant additional capacity to the road network and car parking facilities, reducing congestion in the precinct and improving the passenger experience overall.

Planning and design has been underway as well this year as BAC completes its final preparatory stages before embarking on early works for the delivery of the New Parallel Runway.

With 43 million passengers expected to be travelling through the airport by 2028, Brisbane Airport must upgrade its runway system as well as terminals, roads and other aeronautical facilities to meet this demand.

AUSTRALIA'S newest budget airline isn't out to compete directly with embattled Qantas, it says.

From November 15, Brisbane-based Strategic Airlines will add more routes and rename itself Air Australia.

The airline's aircraft and cabin crew will change their livery from red, white and blue to the nation's iconic green and gold sporting colours, with a boomerang as its motif.

Speaking at the airline's Brisbane launch yesterday, Queensland Attorney-General Paul Lucas said the airline's birth should be a warning to Qantas, which had damaged its reputation through debilitating contract negotiations with its workers.

Mr Lucas said Air Australia was poised to shake up the market.

"Those airlines that have been around Australia for a long time need to understand that no one has a monopoly of calling itself the Australian airline," he said.

Chief executive Michael James said the airline would not compete directly with Qantas or Jetstar and would focus on underserviced routes, particularly direct international flights from Brisbane and Melbourne.

The airline will absorb existing Strategic Airlines routes from Brisbane and Melbourne to Phuket and Brisbane to Bali, with Honolulu to be added in December this year.

Further on, direct flights from Melbourne and Brisbane will also head to the west coast of the USA, Vietnam and Japan.

Sale flights will be available until November 15 from $249 one-way to Bali, $329 to Phuket, and $349 to Hawaii out of Brisbane and Melbourne, running between two and six times a week.

The launch comes as Virgin Australia this week announced new business-class seats on the high-demand Brisbane-Sydney-Melbourne route to be available from mid-January.

Virgin said the flights would be discounted immediately, signalling a future price war, but yesterday Qantas refused to reveal whether it would match the price-cuts.

Qantas faces an uphill battle to restore customer faith after it grounded its entire fleet at the weekend during an industrial dispute.

The airline now has until November 21 to resolve the dispute and strike a new pay deal with three unions representing pilots, licensed engineers and baggage, ground and catering staff.

Last Friday 28October 2011 around 0100 hrs V8-BLD BI072 departed BNE for BWN for the very last time.
It was extremely sad to see a airline leave our skies as well as Perth and Auckland.
Royal Brunei commenced BNE operations in 1994 via Darwin twice a week with 757-200 equipment and when it pulled out of BNE the other day it was operating 6 flights a week with a 285 seater Boeing 777-200 .
In between those years Royal Brunei flew Boeing 767-300 aircraft to BNE.At it's peak services in 2008-2009 a daily 767 service operated BWN-BNE with 3 flights a week continuing onto AKL.AKL was delinked with BNE when the 777's came along.
BI was always a favourite airline with Queenslanders flying to the UK and Europe and was regarded as one of the cheapest carriers on that route.
